We're selling our 950-square-foot condominium in the Marmalade/West Capitol neighborhood of downtown Salt Lake City for $162,000.

Outside
The building is four blocks north of downtown Salt Lake City, and four blocks in the other direction from major freeway access. We love living and working downtown -- it's approximately a 10-minute walk to the head of Center Street and the beginning of true downtown. If you are looking for convenience and accessibility, the Marmalade neighborhood cannot be topped. This location is unbeatable for the quality of the condo (i.e. there are plenty of places to live around here, but choices are limited if you don't want to live in an antiquated floor plan and old finishes).
The charm of the neighborhood is undeniable. Steep and winding city streets feel like an eastern village instead of the wide open west. Charming historic homes sit alongside some of the city's newest projects, all book-ended on one side by Salt Lake's up-and-coming downtown center and on the other side by the city's northern entrance and roadways. The neighborhood's famed fruit trees perfume your evening walk every spring, and the Capitol Building's morning bells can be heard from our condo on quiet mornings. It is, in short, a great place to live.
In addition to all the great benefits of the neighborhood, the condo comes with a covered parking space and an on-site, 3'-by-8' storage unit immediately below our unit.
Inside
When we bought this condo, it had a rainbow of stained carpeting, outdated wall paper, a run-down bathroom, old appliances, an unimpressive kitchen, etc. -- every room was in dire need of updating. We spent three solid months stripping the place to its bones and reconstructing it with new finishes and some minor structural reinforcements.
Entryway
The entryway has dark slate tile and a pop of green to greet your visitors. It also has an unfinished utility closet that has served us well as a storage corner for our bikes, tools and recycling.

Living room
The living room is where we spend the bulk of our time, relaxing in the floor-to-ceiling sunlight.
The gas fireplace has a custom-made, exposed plywood mantle and facade.

We also have a solid wood, built-in bookcase created especially for this space.

Kitchen
The kitchen received the bulk of our attention in the renovation. Everything is new -- cabinets, countertop, stainless-steel appliances, slate floor, additional food storage space, and washer-dryer hook-ups.

We'll be taking the washer and dryer with us when we move, but the nook is plumbed for a washer and electric dryer. (Only one other unit in our complex has its own washer and dryer hook-ups.)
Bathroom
It's modest but hard-working, with a light blue on the walls.
